CD Packaging Design
This project was the first "client" based project I had, which was a fun challenge. I was paired with a few music students who were creating a song called "Smoke Stained Memory." I talked with them about what the song meant, what they envisioned for the feeling of the CD packaging, and what they didn't want. After that, I created three concepts and had them choose one. I ended up designing this packaging by doing the watercolors by hand and then editing them in Photoshop and InDesign.
Watercolor Experimentation
A large part of the process was figuring out what type of watercolor style I wanted to use for the CD cover. I did this by practicing over and over again until I landed on the style that worked the best.
Final Product
The final CD packaging shows a peaceful forest scene on the outside of the digipak, but as it's opens up, the forest becomes more and more chaotic and dark, with smoke and fire rising from the ground. This progression matches the pace of the song, which starts out peaceful and becomes dark and expressive as it goes on.
